$10 Million: Our Total Endowment Goal by 2026
We invite you to support the Tsoknyi Nuns now and beyond this lifetime with a gift to the Tsoknyi Nuns Fund.
How can we ensure that the Tsoknyi Nuns thrive in the present as well as in generations to come?
A gift to the Tsoknyi Humanitarian Foundation to benefit the Tsoknyi Nuns Fund helps to support over 2,000 nuns in Nepal and Tibet and protects their financial well being in perpetuity.
The goal for the Tsoknyi Nuns Fund is $10,000,000 by the end of 2026.
Through the years, people from all over the world have made gifts to this endowment fund and 50% of our goal has been met!
Even though many people include gifts to an endowment fund as part of their planned giving, we welcome a gift to the Tsoknyi Nuns Fund at any time in a person’s life. The future always brings unknowns and an endowment fund brings stability for the care of the nuns during times of crisis.
FAQs
An endowment fund is an investment fund established by a nonprofit organization to provide annual operating support in perpetuity by making consistent withdrawals from invested capital. Endowment funds are typically funded entirely by donations that are deductible for the donors.
A typical endowment distributes 4.5%-5% per year to its beneficiaries while keeping the principal intact. In this way there are always funds available to support the Tsoknyi Nuns for decades to come. A $15,000 donation to the endowment fund today will support a nun in perpetuity!
This endowment fund was started in the early years of Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s teaching career and it has always been intended to benefit monastics in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. In 2004, Tsoknyi Rinpoche began dedicating his life to benefit female monastics and endowment fundraising was designated to benefit the Nangchen Nuns in Tibet.
In 2018, endowment fundraising for all of the Tsoknyi Nuns in Tibet, Nepal and elsewhere became the overarching goal. The Nangchen Nuns Endowment was transferred from the Pundarika Foundation to the Tsoknyi Humanitarian Foundation (THF) in order for all fundraising for the Tsoknyi Nuns to be in one organization.
Currently, Nepal’s inflation rate averages 8% per year. Because of this, the goal for the Tsoknyi Nuns Fund must increase over time to keep up with inflation. As such, fundraising for the Tsoknyi Nuns will be an ongoing necessity.
It is located in the United States with two different investment firms.

Yes, it is true! We accept stock transfers anytime and there are significant tax benefits for donating appreciated stock. For example, you buy a stock for $100 and over time it appreciates to $200. If you sell it, you would be taxed on the $100 gain. If you donate the same $200 worth of stock to a charitable organization, there is a tax deduction for the full $200 and no tax is paid on the gain.
